What if you didn't explain yourself?

Hi beautiful,
I woke up to a message that left me feeling….wronged. By someone who felt wronged by me. And, honestly, my first feeling was that familiar heat in the body.
Defensive energy pulsing through my body with racing thoughts like- “but that’s not what I meant” and “you’ve got me completely wrong.”
How can something I did with such good intentions have landed so badly?
And then I noticed something I’m incredibly grateful for. I didn’t have to do anything with the feeling. I could let it be there.
The tightness. The injustice. The urge to explain myself. The discomfort of being seen through a lens that feels so far from my own intentions. And I could sit with it.
Because I know my intentions. I know what I was trying to create. Harmony. And somehow, I’ve found myself standing in the middle of disharmony instead.
And maybe this is part of being human. Sometimes we will be misunderstood. Sometimes someone will hold a version of us that feels completely unrecognisable.
And we don’t have to wrestle that version out of their hands. They’re allowed to have their experience of us. Even if it’s not our truth. Even if they hold it forever.
I can trust time. I can trust what I know. And I can let the uncomfortable feeling move through me without turning it into another conversation, another explanation, another attempt to make myself understood.
Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is, nothing. Just breathe. And let people have their version of you.
Huge love,
