I'm not a fan of my own reflection.

Hi,

I don’t really like the way I look.

There.

The other day I’m scrolling through the professional photos from Centre Stage. All that dancing, the lights, the big grins, the feeling of being SO alive.

And then I see myself.

Zoom. Squint. Zoom again.

Oh, hello double chin.Interesting angle. Is THAT what my face does when I dance?

And just like that, I’m no longer remembering how bloody good it felt to be up there.

I’m conducting a full forensic investigation into my appearance.

Five minutes ago, I was a woman having the time of her life.

Now I’m wondering if I should ever be photographed again.

And I catch myself thinking, shouldn’t I be beyond this by now?

I’m 46. I’ve done the inner work. I talk about self-acceptance for a living.

Surely I’ve graduated from this particular school of bullshit?

Apparently not.

But here’s what I’m sitting with.

I don’t want to spend my life waiting until I like every angle, every version, every bit of myself before I let myself be seen.

And I don’t want to give myself a hard time for having a hard time.

Maybe the work isn’t to never feel insecure again.

Maybe it’s learning to meet ourselves a little differently when we do.

With curiosity instead of criticism.Compassion instead of shame.A little less what’s wrong with me? and a little more oh, there’s something tender here.

And I reckon it’s bloody hard to do that alone.

Because sometimes we need someone else to sit beside us, hear the thing we’re embarrassed to say out loud, and not make us feel like we need to fix it before we’re worthy of being loved.

Sometimes being seen by someone else helps us begin to see ourselves through kinder eyes.

And I think that’s worth remembering.

We’re all walking around with our own versions of this. The inner commentary, the self-doubt, the things we quietly pick ourselves apart over while everyone else assumes we’re doing just fine.

What if we gave each other a little more room to be human?

What if we could share the messy, uncomfortable, not-quite-sorted bits without needing to turn them into a lesson or pretend we’ve got it all together?

Because we’re not broken for having these feelings.

And we don’t have to get over every insecurity before we’re allowed to get on with living.

We get to dance anyway. Laugh anyway. Put ourselves out there anyway.

And perhaps, with a little more compassion for ourselves and each other, we can spend less time fighting who we are and more time actually enjoying being here.

Huge love,
