Hey beauty,
Have you ever shared your feelings with someone only to be met with the words "Well, that's just your opinion"?
This comes up a lot in coaching sessions—especially in conversations about relationships. And of course it's your opinion - you can only ever share from your personal experience and filter.
Recently a client shared how frustrated she felt when opening up to her partner, only to hear: “Well, that’s just your experience.”
Ouch!!
She wasn’t looking for a debate. She wasn’t trying to win anything. She was just sharing what something felt like for her. And in that moment, it felt like her reality was being dismissed.
I get it—so many of us have been there and I've got some tips on how to approach it next time it happens ⬇️⬇️⬇️
The truth is, we all see the world through our own lens. No two people experience life in the exact same way. But when we frame it as “just an opinion” or “just your experience,” it can shut down connection instead of opening it up.
So, we explored a different approach.
Instead of: “That’s just how you see it.”
What if we tried: “I can see this really matters to you. Tell me more.”
Instead of: “That’s not how I see it.”
What if we said: “I hear you. I have a different perspective—can we explore both?”
Because the goal isn’t to agree on everything.
It’s to make space for both perspectives to exist at once. Because that’s where understanding grows and relationships deepen.
Have you ever had a moment where you felt dismissed in a conversation? What helped you navigate it?
Huge love,
