What if the payoff is happening right now?

Hello wonderful human,

I was putting on my makeup this morning, one cheek at a time.

My hand on my face. Foundation under my fingers. The little tapping and blending and smoothing. Moving from one side to the other.

And I suddenly thought, what if we’ve got this whole thing backwards? We’re so accustomed to being paid for the outcome.

So much of life becomes aboutgetting to the other side.

The actual doing. The showing up. The tiny bit of momentum created bytaking one more step.

The walk. The practice. The makeup. The meal you make from scratch. The thing that doesn’t quite get finished but is further along than it was yesterday.

Maybe doing the thing is part of the payoff. And maybe that changes the whole feeling of a life.

One hand on the cheek. One small action. One little bit of movement.
